Summer's Over

That was a very pleasant weekend. Visited James and family, ex-Killer Rabbits’ guitarist, currently exploring jazz-guitar. He’s going to put the lead guitar on the Mighty’s CD. And yesterday a visit from Joe’s girlfriend’s sister and her father, daughter and husband and his child. I cooked my nearly-famous nut roast.
Have now recorded the bass and drums for the Mighty Molecules CD. How about Mighty Microbes? Does that sound a better name? Have done a couple of rhythm guitar tracks but I'm having trouble getting a good sound.
Tonight rehearsals start up again for Damn Right I Got the Blues – so I’ll be loading up the car and driving up to London. Summer must be really over now. The children’s book still moving forward but at an astonishingly slow pace – school visits don’t start up again until the end of the month so hopefully I’ll have time to finish it by then. October’s nearly fully booked. It’s because of National Poetry Day in the UK. What will you be doing on that day?

Molecules? Microbes? Not much to choose between them really.
Why is your nut roast nearly famous? Has it got meat in?
Still waiting for the Killer Rabbits 4 CD boxed set of out-takes and demos to come out. Will I have to wait long?
What about the Wrong Brothers DVD? Surely thats due out soon? I listed to some Dylan this afternoon as I waited for my phone call. It was lovely to list to Corrina Corrina and Girl From the North Country again- makes the hairs on the back of my hairs stand on end!

Agree with Michael that Mighty Molecules or Microbes just doesn't have quite the ring I'd want...a few more suggestions for the pot...Mighty Macadoos or Mighty Micks or Dawg Nites or..enough...lol. Also interested in the nut roast & maybe yer secret recipe? All kinds of music in the making, Roger...sounds exciting! Have a d/l of Girl from the North Country done by Dylan & Johnny Cash which is outstanding...have you heard it? Something about this time of year...just energizing & all new anticipations!

I prefer Mighty Molecules....microbes don't sound as clean and dynamic...
And you seem more molecule to me....or is it more molecure?

Molecule...the smallest particle of a substance that retains all it's qualities...is that what your going for?

Eurrgh! Yuk! nasty dirty smelly microbes!

Hey, I quite like Macadoos.
The Mighty Macadoos.
But what are they?

I'm tempted to put my nut roast (which I've only so far cooked and served for two meals - when we've had vegetarians visiting for lunch - and so isn't quite famous) recipe on the blog. But I don't think I can bring myself to the state of swapping blog recipes.

I'm not a vegetarian, but if I had to make a choice between meat & veggies, veggies would win every time. Well, we won't make a habit of swapping recipes but for the occasional exceptional one, maybe? Please? Hard to find really tasty new dishes and the old stuff gets boring! Macadoos is sort of the short form for "making doodles" or making a new thing from small bits you have laying about.

You've just made that up! Macadoos indeed!

Hazel just asked Archie's chubby friend James what his favourite bit about his new school is and without hesitating he said it was the "Food!" Especially the chips by all accounts! I'm not sure he's a good influence for our boy! They've just gone off to the "tuck shop" to by sweets.
O dear.
I see nothing wrong in swapping recipes on our blogs. I gave Syl our veg. curry one recently. Did you try it Syl?

Roger’s Nut Roast

Ingredients

Butter – 50gms
Onion – chopped up.
2 sticks of celery - chopped up.
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
Zest and juice of one unwaxed lemon
Tablespoonful fresh thyme
225gms mixed nuts, finely chopped – I do them in the food processor – and roasted, I do that under the grill – but don’t do them for too long or you’ll set off the smoke alarm.
225 gms cooked brown rice. (That’s 125gms uncooked rice.)
125gms cheddar cheese, grated.
Tablespoonful chopped fresh herbs. (I used basil, oregano and parsley)
2 eggs lightly beaten.

1 Cook rice
2 Fry onion, celery, garlic, lemon zest and thyme in butter for about ten minutes until soft.
3 Put in food processor with everything else (nuts, cooked rice, cheese, lemon juice and herbs)
4 Pulse until evenly blended. Add salt and pepper.
5 Grease loaf tin (900gms or 2 lb) and line with greaseproof paper.
6 Spoon mixture into tin. Cover with layer of greaseproof paper and then a layer of silver foil.
7 Bake at 190 deg. C or Gas Mark 5 for 1 and a quarter hours.
8 Let stand for ten minutes.
9 Be careful when taking it out of tin.

I did a nice onion and port gravy to go with it.

For some reason my confession didn't print so if 2 responses show up that's why. Of course I made up Macadoos...who the heck knows what they are?!!! Meantime...hey, Roger, wow that sounds yummy. Thanx so much!

Ah, so here is your recipe. I had to scroll down quite a long way to find it! These comments go on forever!
Nice tangiy sounding nut roast with lemon juice- never tried that.1 and quarter hours to cook seems a long time though. I usually bung mine in for 45 mins.Mind you I cook it ina flan dish which makes it cook quicker I suppose being flatter. Its more like a cake than a loaf.
