Did anyone see it? The Liverpool poets on Channel 5.
Roger McGough and Brian Patten. Poor old Adrian Henri's no longer with us of course.
There's an interview with Brian Patten on the Poetry Zone. Haven't managed to get Roger McGough yet, though. He's too famous probably.
It was a great programme. He has to be my favourite living poet.

Ah, don't get it here in the US...so why is he your all time favorite?
He's an arrogant little twerp too according to Hazel who was at a publishers "do" once and he was swanning around making an arse of himself.
Michael, don't spoil things for me. He was probably having an off day. He was probably drunk. He had probably been invaded by aliens and was under the control of the big green head from Tramafaldore.
I just love his poems. Have you read The Way Things Are?
EEERmmm..I met him at a faber and faber party and he was right full of himself....I am afraid I hated him from that day..first impressions never leave you and I can't even listen to poetry please now .... he seems to have taken it over.
I am sure he is a modest(hah) lovely sweet man underneath.
Bag that interview and prove me wrong.
I don't think I said "arrogant little twerp"...(just for the record).I don't want to start a great debate about Mr Mc.
In fact I will never mention him again.
This commenting is delaying tactics as I have loads of work to do for college now...so I will go quiet from now on....
our course leader is off on the sick...
I will just read your conversations...and add to my Blog now and again.
work calls.......summer is over.
O dear i seem to have put a spanner in the works( or is it a fly in the ointment?) regarding Roger McGough. I have a few of his books but my favourite living poet is definately John Hegley and thats not just because he's been for tea and i did a book cover for him. McGough seems a bit full of himself now he's on radio 4 all the time. I'll be amazed if you actually get an interview out of him.
Am obviously not up to date with living Brit poets...shame on me...Don't recognise or know the work of either Roger McGough or John Hegley. Might be nice to get a copy of each to compare...and always nice to read on a rainy or snowy day. If I do, will look for "The Way Things Are", Roger as trust your judgement. But, not knowing these two, there is always the wonderful poems of Roger which I quite enjoy reading here. And the silly chatter that follows some. Thanks for the gravy recipe too...yum yum yum!
A link to the John Hegley Webley on my bloggy now Syl. Go take a look at the master of comic verse - even better live ofcourse.
Or picking up a purse thats been dropped by a horse.
