Another Train Event

We have new trains in the South East. They are gradually replacing the trains that have been running since the 1950s. So I was sitting in the new train and we stopped at a station but the doors wouldn’t open. (These are new-fangled electric doors). The guard came along and started fiddling in a control box, situated above one of the doors. Eventually the door opened and people got on. The doors closed and we carried on with our journey.
“Does that often happen?” I asked the guard.
“Yes," he said. “This train is controlled by a computer. And the computer says when the doors will open. The worst thing is when we have to add carriages to the train. Then the computer has to be rebooted.”

The mind boggles.

Thanks very much for your birthday wishes everyone.
It was an odd birthday. Jill left for America this morning - so we stayed in a hotel at Heathrow last night.
So today began at 5.30. Jill gave me my prezzy (The George Harrison boxed set of Dark Horse records - more of that anon) and left for the terminal.
I then drove a roundabout route (got lost on the airport's ring-road system) to a very nice school in Wokingham. Had a great day performing poems etc. Then a mad rush to Brighton to pick up Judy Dog and from there to Battle where I run a creative writing class. Got home at around 9.30.
So a long day and not very birthdayie.
Did get to play lots of George in the car though.

That re-booting of computers..that happened to me on a 747 plane on the tarmac at Olso airport...The pilot kept saying over the tanoy "I just need to switch the plane off and re-boot it...." then he did it again...and again...and we all started to get worried..its okay on the ground but what do you do in the air?
THEN he said I am calling to London to get them to read through the manuel...!!!!
Glad to say we swapped planes and got home 5 hours later.

Scary, Hazel.

We were waiting for a flight in Denver a couple of years ago and they said they were sorry but the plane wasn't ready yet. They were still trying to fix the door.
