Live at Staplecroft Village Hall

Posted by Hello

Here it is then - at last!. The project that began nearly a year ago when I bought a little electronic box that enabled me to record directly on to my PC.
It started out as a verse novel about a group of teenagers who formed a band. I wrote about a dozen or so songs for it on holiday in France last summer. But the story run out of steam. So I decided to record the songs anyway. The band were going to be The Mighty Molecules. But, after lots of arguments in the pub, they settled on Wonky Finger.
Jill said of my first recorded effort that it sounded like it had been recorded in a village hall. Aha, I though - then that’s what I’ll do. Make it a live album. The awful acoustics in the hall will surely make up for my technical deficiencies.
If you're interested you can buy the album – or swap for something similar (your album – or maybe a compilation you’ve made) at Rabbit Press Regular visitors can contact me at the Rabbit Press e-mail address to swap. Oh, and the CD comes in a little hand made case.

I followed Transience over to your blog and I am glad I did. I love the blurb about the band, I have been in and out of bands for years. Love the name of the band as well. Cheers!

i've always loved the word wonky.

it reminds me of a poem my mom used to recite about the wonks and the squiggy-come-squeezes that swallers themselves..

left a reply to your comment about the birds on mine....also where would they get the motivation and inspiration to make such music if it were not for wooing. hehehe

Many thanks for the Wonky Finger in the post this morning! It is as wonderful as I imagined and more so. Favourite tracks on first listening are "I Remember Bob", "What Wanda Wants "( definately the single!) The Magic band influenced "Go Go Go!" and "The Big Production Number". Thank you so much for sending it Roger. I look forward to hearing it again very soon.

Glad you like it so far, Michael. You're the first to hear it other than Jill. Obviously I think it's good - but that doesn't mean anyone else will - so this is a bervous time, sending my baby out into the world.

You will be able to download some samples of two or three of the tracks soon from the Rabbit Press website - as soon as my clever nephew has sorted it out.

Thanks for all your comments BTW -but must go - very hectic morning, but will reply to people, and post another poem, later.

Not just a bervous time - but a nervous time as well.

Hi Roger, I know this is late, but I just wanted to let you know I've reposted all the story contributions from last week, yours included, at indeterminacies. Thanks for your first-time contribution. I hope you're back again next time. I've also browsed your site a bit and liked what I read, so have added links to you.

By the way, did you name your band after that Buddy Guy cd of the same name? By a wild coincidence I was in Bonn for some visa business when who should I see, but Buddy Guy himself. This was the early 90's. He was playing at a (free) open air blues fest. I even got his autograph, and told him I had all his albums. He answered "So you have them all, do you? Do you have the new one?" It was "Damn Right I've got the Blues," which he was there promoting. So that's how I got the cd. In case you hadn't guessed, I like Blues.

Thank you, Kimberley. I don't know the Anita Shreve book - but I'll track it down.

The title comes from my first poem collection. For a while Jill and I lived along the Kent coast. And we used to walk Judy along the high tide mark - and search for sea glass. We got quite a collection. Mainly green - but once in a while a small blue gem.

Let me guess, the runner-up title was "Twisted Toe"? ; )
