Two Poems

Billy Elliot

When I was a boy
I hardly knew what was what
Unlike Billy Elliot
Dancing, spinning, spiralling
Through the heaven
Of the Victoria Palace Theatre
Bending the imaginations
Of the stalled audience

But are my tears
For a childhood lost
Or a life beginning?
And am I really any wiser?

For Paul

Your sadness
Overwhelmed us all
Drove us from the road
Upturned us in a ditch

Your new love?
You wrote songs for her
But she betrayed you, lied
Took all your loving
And sold it for a silver hammer -
Bitch!

A couple of short poems. I wasn't looking forward to the musical Billy Elliot, we went with a group of Jill's work friends. But I have to say - it's probably the best musical I've ever seen. The story - the Miner's Strike - is powerfully portrayed, the choreography and production is very, very clever - anyway - it was fantastic! And I just felt I wanted to comment on Beatle Paul's separation. I think Heather's a bit doolally. How about you.

my chance hath come. my moment to rub up against the famed and famous.
heather stole the heart of an old friend of ours husband, a man called alfie. he was rich and successful but it soon became obvious that she was after more.
i guess she got it.

I loved Billy Elliot! Have only seen the movie version, though.

about growing wiser ... does anyone? i know I never did. thank god?
perhaps ... sometimes being a little crazy and silly is so much fun!

The tone of these two poems seem rather unusual for you. I rather like it, I must confess. I seem to get a bit cleaverer but never any wiser, guess it will always be just the carrot urging this old donkey to keep moving.

Firstly I love the film, the poem reminds me of a saying 'The more you know, the more you realise how little you know'.

As for the Heather thing I think it's very difficult to arrive at a conclusion about some-one (either of them)when my only contact with their activities and personalities are the results of inturpretation by the press.

But if I were a gambler I think I'd come down on the side of a man, who it seemed was happily married for many years and who's relationship only ended when she died.

Don't you just love it when you are dragging your feet, sludging along...NO!!! I don't want to go!!!and then find a wonderful, getouttahere-terrific surprise?!
Seems like some of the best times are unplanned...caught off guard.
One of the things that make life exciting.
On the other hand, I believe your tyre is flat, kind Sir. ;-)
Have a fun day Roger!

Hello again. I haven't visited in a while, but I fondly remember your poem about how people feeding birds upset you because of its detrimental effects on the enviornment.

I'm a fan of Threadless.com which sells t-shirts online. Artists submit designs and if the public scores the work high enough then Threadless will print it on shirts.

There's a new one entitled "Lunch Time" that made me think of you and your poem.

The shirt may not capture the serious tone of your poem, but it does show some of those detrimental effects in a humorous way. I thought you might enjoy.

We went to see quite few musicals in the West End when we were living in London. Our favourites were Forbidden Planet, Buddy and Little Voice. Most hated was "Blood Brothers" which was awful and we saw it twice!!

The funniest comment I heard about Heather Mills was by Jonathan Ross who said she was such a liar that he bet she still has two legs!

Hey, all you poets out there - I've just found this great blog where you send your poems and this clever chap makes them into songs - its called "Songs for Poems" and you can find it HERE.

He's just made a great song from one of mine called "Laughing" - go and have a listen.

You must. You know what they say - Cleanliness is next to Bloggliness. But not in the dictionary I've got.
