Pizza Express

I am in the Pizza Express
Opposite the British Library
Writing this poem.
But where are you
As you read this poem?
And where am I
As you read this poem?

Maybe I’m in another Pizza Express
Wondering how much time has passed.
I bet it’s no longer April.
Maybe the year 2007 has left us
For the new, exciting 2008
Or the scary two tens.

Maybe the poem has made it into print
And you're sitting on a grassy slope
Wiling away a loose half hour
Before the concert commences
Or you’ve come across it on a blog
Or maybe you're reading it in its original notebook form
Which you found in a suitcase of precious things
Recovered from the tumbledown cottage
Where I spent my twilight years
With only a young and attractive, and devoted, female nurse
For company –
Where I raised many a glass of good, red wine
To the setting sun.

Or maybe I am sitting opposite you
At some other Pizza Express
As you read these lines
Raising a glass to us
And to wherever we may be
In future lines.

Well, I wrote this poem one day whilst sitting in a Pizza... oh, I guess you already know that.

I'm just starting to get a new collection of my grown-up poems together. It will take a while, I guess. Also still, still,
s t i l l waiting for the cover of my new CD to be printed. I can't believe it's taking soooooo long.

Sitting at my computer, lovely poem I think it might well give a few people the shivers-particularly if they find it in a suitcase

Hey, I'm sitting at a computer also- how weird! Looking up I can see out of the dusty window into the back garden and the white sheet blowing gently on the washing line.

No pizza to be seen though the smell of a nut roast and potatoes in the oven for Sunday dinner. I'll have to go and make the gravy and put the broccoli on in a mo.

Good luck with the grown up poems. Maybe I'll read them when I'm grown up enough! I still don't feel like I really have despite having a bus pass!

That CD is taking a ridiculously long time to emerge from it's chrysalis!

this is one of those verses that makes me a little giggly. pizza and a bubbly, maybe those would be good partners to this poem.

HAzel said....I am sitting at a compooter too....thinking about when we went to pizza express....they asked us to go and wait in a corner whilst they cleared the table..but I said I didn't mind watching them clear the table as I had just sat down and wasn't going to collect up all our wet coats and brollies to wait in a dark corner....
see what you have done Roger...brought back memories best left unsaid...I hope you are happy now... (tee hee).the Pizza was tasty though....

It's a small world!

I have a friend
Who is a pizza
Above the British Museum
She has mushroom and Elgin Marble topping

Feeling a little tubby
After broccoli and bubbly
Nutty words hopping
From my marbled cheesy teaser

I have a friend
Who is a raw prawn
Above the Tate Modern
He has a dada sauce

Mostly made of lino
Dandruff, conkers and a horse.
