To be stictly accurate the real Haiku should keep the faith, as it were, and not stray from the original method but many poets do. I think that is fine as it indicates an influence by Haiku although it isn't but becomes something akin to it.

What are the rules to Haikus again? Is it 7 syllabals, 5 syllabals and 7 syllabals? or the other way round? Can you cheat and have 6 syllabals?
